Climate Benefits

By utilizing a straw which currently can be considered as a biowaste product from the grain production, the pyrolysis bio oil production demonstrate an extremely postive climate performance.

In a lifecycle analysis perspective, the global warming potential will decrease in the range of 90% as a consequence of the bio-oil production, which can be calculated in relations to the current baseline scenario where straw is incorporated in soil in the following crop cycle and where bio-oil replace fossil fuel in a district heating system.

If all bio-oil from the first plant in Denmark with a capacity of 150,000 tonnes of input straw annually, is considered to be exported within a Scandinavian market to displace either light or heavy fuel-oil, the annual green house gas saving will be about 120,000 tonnes
